About
Lily Lyor Askenazi (b. 1990, Paris, France) is a screenwriter, script editor, and translator from English to French.
Her English to French translation work spans across artistic genres and archives. Her latest projects include translations for The Funambulist magazine, research for a correspondence between Virginia Woolf and her sister Vanessa Bell (Baisers du Singe, Éditions La Table Ronde, 2026), subtitles for Ariella Aïsha Azoulay’s newest film, and a co-translation with Rosanna Puyol Boralevi for ‘Strike’ by the Moved by the Motion collective at NTGent.
As a screenwriter, her latest short film, written with director Olivia Lifungula and supported by the BFI, will be completed fall 2026.
In 2021, a short she co-wrote with director Stephanie Bollag premiered at both Tribeca and Raindance film festivals after winning the best short screenplay for Shore Scripts 2018 and the Atlanta Film Fest Screenplay competition in 2019.
Her French upbringing mixed with Middle Eastern, North African and Eastern European heritage has always compelled her to mediate between cultures within her storytelling. Writing in both English and French, her narrative work focuses on bittersweet coming-of-age stories and addresses living in community while dealing with complex mental health journeys.
Lyor holds an MA in screenwriting from the London Film School (2015), and a BA in English literature from King’s College London (2011).
